Reviews & Scores
"...is really beautiful complexity to the expressive nose of fresh tobacco, damp earth and spice elements on the sous-bois scented aromas. The full-bodied, notably rich and now completely supple flavors have retained a lovely freshness to them as well with very fine persistence on balanced finish where a touch of unresolved structure surfaces."

At our Saarbrucken tasting, the 1989 Musigny acquitted itself much better than the 1990, as the overripe nature that also plagues many of the red wines of this vintage today, showed much less of an impact on the Drouhin Musigny. The bouquet on the 1989 is really quite floral and pretty, offering up notes of cherries, berries, plums, violets, chocolate, mustard seed and vanillin oak. Aromatically, this is one of the least soil-defined noses in the vertical, but the fruit is quite a bit fresher than in the 1990. On the palate the wine is medium-full, pure and velvety, with good focus and depth, and really very charming, tangy acids for a 1989 red Burgundy. The finish is long and pure, and though it is very fruit-driven for a Drouhin Musigny, it delivers all the other signature aspects of Musigny, despite its rather modest statement of soil. Stylistically, it reminds me very strongly of the 1989 La Tâche. A very tasty bottle. (Drink between 2006-2025)
